Nebraska Furniture Mart was set to deliver my furniture to my new place in Emporia today between the hours of 7am and 9am. Since it's an hour and a half drive or so from Lawrence, I decided to just drive out there last night and sleep over. So, not wanting to waste a trip, I packed some boxes and then loaded my car up until I couldn't fit anything else in but myself and then went along my merry way. It was already 9:30 or so by this point.
My apartment doesn't yet have electricity turned on, what's the point since I'm not staying there, right? Oh my god, I was sooo miserably hot last night. I hate to leave windows open when I sleep, because, well, I'm female and I'm paranoid but I broke down and opened two in my bedroom so that I didn't awake to find myself melted into a Kelly-puddle. To top it off, my flashlight lantern didn't work. It would stay bright for maybe 2 minutes and then slowly dim down until it turned itself off. So I couldn't read the book I had brought with me. :( I was going to blow up my air mattress to sleep on, but the pump is sooo loud and I was feeling a little skittish about being in an empty apartment, all by myself, without electricity, that I opted not to make a whole bunch of noise. I slept on my papasan chair cushion instead. Surprisingly, it was quite comfy. But, it was so hot that I kept waking up throughout the evening. I finally woke up for good at around 5:30am after having a rather interesting nightmare. I wrote down the details because it was so interesting that maybe, if my Muse comes to me, I can work it into a story. Alex has told me before that I should make my dreams into stories because they're so out there and original so what the heck, I'll give it a try. But anyway, at the end of my nightmare I was wrestling with a big, black wolf who was snarling. The noise, I found as I woke up, was actually the sound of the blinds hitting the window frame from the storm winds outside. Crazy how that happens.
So, anyway, I'm up at 5:30 and it starts pouring. I use my handy dandy Sprint PCS phone to check the weather and it says it's supposed to rain all morning. I'm starting to get a little worried here that either a)they won't deliver my furniture in the rain or b)I won't want them to deliver my furniture in the rain because it will get messed up. I decided to go sit on my porch, where there was more light and read my new Dean Koontz novel, The Taking which, as far as I've gathered so far, is about an alien invasion--the first sign of which is the torrential downpour. Hmm. Thankfully, the rain stopped like, ten minutes before the delivery men got there. I directed them where to place my pieces and then stood around feeling like a jerk as I watched them haul everything up that long flight of stairs.
After they left I ended up having to rearrange a little. But on the whole, I absolutely LOVE my new bedroom set. I hung up the curtains that match my bedspread and it just looks soooo pretty. I also hung up the curtains for the living room and unpacked some boxes. It's really starting to look homey in there. Except for that whole being really far from everyone and everything cool part, I can't wait to live there!
Lala, now off to take a shower and then out to Olathe to go watch The Wedding Crashers with Zach and then hopefully, I'll get to see Alex afterwords. Busy, busy Kelly today.
